The blown glass work of Dale Chihuly is instantly recognizable by artists and non-artists alike. He is the artist who has revolutionized the blown glass media. Chihuly's blown glass pieces are admired throughout the United States and in many countries throughout the world. There is no other artist who is more famous for beautiful glass pieces than those created by Chihuly.
The Studio Glass Movement came to be because of the work of Chihuly. Previously, blown glass was created in a solitary way, with a single artist in his studio. However, the Studio Glass Movement involved the concept of teams, with each person taking on a specific job to create a beautifully intricate blown glass piece. Chihuly and his teams have created glass pieces that have become part of permanent exhibits throughout the world in major museums, hotels, and other types of businesses.
The blown glass media did not receive the type of prestige in the past that it has now. This fact is also due to the influence of Dale Chihuly. The artist developed his love for the media in the early 1960s and continues to produce the most beautiful creations of glass every seen. After receiving his degree in sculpture, Chihuly took what he knew and honed his skills with blown glass, teaching other students who worked with him how to express art with glass. His work ranges from small pieces, such as bowls, to full blown pieces, such as glass sculptures that are as tall as buildings.
