Most people are fascinated by magicians who do card tricks and marvel at the way they make cards disappear, re-appear, or can amazingly discover the card that the volunteer chose. We all know that magic doesn't exist yet we can't fail to be impressed at how these tricks are performed and something at the back of our minds still likes to think that magic is somehow involved. 

There are some card tricks that are very complex and require a high level of skill and dexterity to perform however, there are literally thousands of card tricks that can be performed by anybody with little or no skill yet still amaze an audience.

Later in this article I will show you how to perform a very simple trick that will take only a few seconds to learn and understand and which you will be able to perform to amaze your friends and family.

You will find that there are a number of basic certain techniques that magicians use over and over again to perform card tricks, a large majority of these are fairly simple and only require practice to be able to enlarge your repertoire of card trick skills.

One of these is called the "double lift" which involves holding the pack in a certain manner and using the pressure of the thumb against the two forefingers to grip the top two cards of the pack and lift them from the pack and by applying pressure, bend the two cards slightly so they will appear as one in your hand. That is the basic premise of the double lift and only requires practice, practice and more practice to complete.

When you are able to do the double lift there are a number of simple tricks that you can perform using it. And here's one.......

The Trick.

The top card of the deck is turned face up so that the audience can see it. The card is then turned face down and removed from the deck. Take this opportunity to show the card to the audience before you place it into the middle of the deck and then square the deck.

Method.

As you have probably worked out by now this trick uses the principle of the double lift. When you show what will be the top card to your audience you are actually showing them the second card which is the bottom one on your double lift. When you take the top card and insert it into the deck you are actually leaving the card that was shown on the top of the deck. This can then be revealed to your audience in any way you wish to increase your showmanship.

The only real trick is that you must ensure that you are able to do a double lift quickly and cleanly.

Remember, practice makes perfect!

And that is how easy it is to do a simple card trick. A little bit of practice and you will be able to wow your friends and family and can bring a little bit of fun and entertainment to those boring Christmas and family parties that are just around the corner.
